Brief Summary


Begin to understand the core principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI), foundation skills and how to properly use motivational interviewing exercises. Participants will learn how to apply motivational interviewing techniques with clients who are struggling with various mental health diagnoses to help build autonomy in various stages of recovery. This approach will help guide mental health professionals to foster skills pertaining to decreasing treatment resistance as well as increase motivation for change.

Jessica O’Sullivan is a licensed clinical social worker and certified alcohol and drug counselor in the Chicagoland area. She earned her Bachelor’s in Child and Family Development from Western Michigan University and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan, where she was honored as a Caren Kaplan Scholar. Jessica has worked in both emergency services and residential treatment settings, supporting teens and adolescents with trauma and dual diagnoses. She currently serves as the Associate Director of Community and Rapid Response at Community Counseling Centers of Chicago. Her therapeutic approach integrates motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, and a psychodynamic lens, tailored to each client’s unique needs. As a clinical supervisor and therapist, she is passionate about helping clients process openly, strengthen family connections, and grow through life’s challenges.
