Register today for an all-day interactive training to learn how to create custom business applications with Low-Code and leveraging the Microsoft Power Platform technologies – PowerApps, Microsoft Flow and Power BI.

This is a game changing, instructor lead, workshop designed to accelerate your experience with multiple demo hands-on labs and take home content. Bring your Windows-based laptop and we will supply the rest, including lunch!

Abstract and Learning Objectives

This is a beginner level workshop for you to get hands on experience with the Microsoft Power Platform technologies – PowerApps, Microsoft Flow, Power BI, and Common Data Service for Apps. The workshop includes step-by-step instructions for someone new to these technologies to build a several different types of solutions or apps within a day.

Technologies covered:

  • · PowerApps: A software as a service application platform that enables power users in line of business roles to easily build and deploy custom business apps. You will learn how to build Canvas and Model-driven style of apps.
  • Common Data Service (CDS): Makes it easier to bring your data together and quickly create powerful apps using a compliant and scalable data service and app platform that’s integrated into PowerApps.
  • Microsoft Flow: A business service for line of business specialists and IT pros to build automated workflows intuitively.
  • Power BI: Self-service business intelligence capabilities, where end users can create reports and dashboards by themselves, without having to depend on information technology staff or database administrators.

Lab structure and Learning Objectives

The lab is divided into four modules, with one lab document provided for each module.

1. PowerApps Canvas App:

Basic concepts in building PowerApps Canvas apps.

  • Connect to data sources and filter results based on certain criteria
  • Work with screens and navigation
  • Use controls, properties, formulas and actions to customize the user experience
  • Display the logged in user’s name
  • Configure app settings
  • Save and share an app
  • Run an app on a mobile device

2. Common Data Service for Apps:

Introduces you to the Common Data Service for Apps (CDS for Apps).

  • Create and customize a custom entity
  • Use the Form control
  • Save data into the Common Data Service using the Form control

3. PowerApps Model-driven:

Introduces you to building Model-driven PowerApps.

  • Create a standalone Model-driven app.
  • Customize forms for the Model-driven app
  • Use of a Business Process Flow to guide the user through a process

4. Microsoft Flow:

Introduces you to Microsoft Flow.

  • Create a flow that is triggered when a new Common Data Service record is created
  • Automate sending approval requests
  • Customize the approval based on the CDS record
  • Use the Approval center

5. Power BI

Introduces you to Power BI.

  • Connect Power BI to the Common Data Service
  • Transform CDS data for use in visualizations
  • Create visualizations on the CDS data
  • Combine CDS data with other data sources

Bio

Hiram Fleitas is the Principal Database Architect at Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Company and leads the company’s intelligent edge using Microsoft’s data platform. He currently is developing database applications using Machine Learning models trained on claims, policy, and social media data to predict business opportunities for customer satisfaction and loyalty in real-time.

He has worked with SQL Server for 20 years, from version 6.0 to 2019 with some of the largest companies in the world. He’s spoken on Power BI User Groups, SQL Server at User Groups, South Florida Code Camp, PASS SQL Saturdays, and corporate business events, often presenting talks on security, performance, devops, machine learning, and business intelligence. He coded his first program in BASIC when he was 13 years old as a school project and developed a passion for computers ever since.

Hiram is also a code contributor to several opensource projects and serves as an IS Flotilla Staff Officer for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. On his time off he mostly enjoys spending time with his wife Christina and two kids, Ocean and Skylar Fleitas. He also wakeboards, wakesurfs, snowboards and does endurance training events by GORUCK’s Cadre-led decorated combat veterans of Special Operations.
