Event description

Description

In the current landscape, all eyes are on screening for health-related social needs and initiating hand-offs of to community-based organizations – critical processes for sure. Yet several long-standing, less publicly visible workforce functions have had – and continue to have – profound effects on the health of individuals, families and communities. These functions include:

  • Certification of people’s medical eligibility for a range of health-promoting benefits and services (e.g., emergency housing options for some survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault, FMLA leave for patients and caregivers, SSI/SSDI disability benefits, etc.)

  • Documentation regarding a person’s social health needs in medical record systems; and

  • State law-governed obligations to report suspected abuse or neglect of children, older adults, and persons with disabilities.

We are convening over 150 leaders for a dialogue about the many ways in which organizations and their workforces own key functions that drive people’s social health as well as system costs – and how they can manage those functions in more person-centered and effective ways. Our cutting-edge event will feature:

  • Remarks by Baraka Floyd, MD, MSc, of the Stanford School of Medicine (MLPB’s Consulting Medical Director)

  • A “deep dive” panel who will speak to key workforce responsibilities – well beyond screening and referral – that impact the health of people and populations in significant ways

  • Robust engagement and networking among participants and panelists

  • Release of a hot-off-the-presses MLPB report on Unlocking Access: The Connections between Medical Certifications and Health Equity
