About this event
UPDATE 1/16/23: DUE TO OUR LIMITED CAPACITY, WE ARE ONLY TAKING NE W REGISTRATIONS FROM FOLKS WHO ARE RESIDENTS OF GERMANTOWN.
We say this not to be exclusive, but because the conversation of this event is Germantown-focused and is part of a bigger picture of neighborhood organizing here.
Our organizers may consider offering another version of this event virtually later, to accommodate the additional interest!

A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION FOR GERMANTOWN FOLKS
A Beloved Community does not throw away its people. It does not allow the displacement from gentrification to happen. Did you know that housing justice was a major part of Dr. Dr. King's organizing work? Join in this community conversation for Germantown folks about housing justice, gentrification, and working together to become a beloved community.
MLK Day, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has become an annual day of conversation and visioning for GREAT and Germantown neighbors. Our first event in 2020 was at Our House Culture Center and we're excited to be back again this year, after two years of virtual events.
This time, we continue to build on Dr. King's concept of Beloved Community, with a focus on housing justice and the displacement of our neighbors. Losing community members due to the nature of housing development is a serious matter in Germantown. We neighbors can organize ourselves to prioritize housing justice as a community value, and generate alternatives to displacement. Join us as we build momentum for the work we will be doing over the upcoming years.
We will provide free hot beverages and baked goods from High Point Cafe, and a light lunch. Childcare will be provided.
Thank you to Resolve Philly, Our House Culture Center, and High Point Cafe for sponsoring the event.
During MLK Day 2023 we will also provide information about signing up for our upcoming Learning Circle on housing which will run weekly February - March.
