What's a Fishbowl?
A few times a year, MKM architecture + design hosts a Fishbowl. It's an afternoon event where we invite interesting people from the community to reflect on their careers, share their work, and discuss big ideas. Topics can range from artificial intelligence to social justice and many things in between. The Fishbowl offers an intimate venue for discussing, sharing, and learning about innovations in community health and well-being.

About James Kahn
James Bashir A. Khan is a proud husband to Erika and father of two precious girls, Niobi (19) & Cairo (12). James is also the majority owner of BakerStreet Steakhouse, The Hoppy Gnome, Gnometown Brewing Co., Proximo, & B1 Real Estate Development.
A Fort Wayne native, James majored in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. However, after 12 months of working in engineering, James found his calling in hospitality while working part-time at Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano in Fort Wayne.
In 2009, James had the opportunity to take over the once-failing BakerStreet Steakhouse, with the reward of ownership if he could make the restaurant a success. Within four years, BakerStreet was thriving, and he and his partners then opened The Hoppy Gnome, followed by Gnometown Brewing in late 2016 and Proximo in 2018. Most recently, he and his partners launched Fort Wayne’s first new urban development, The Villages of Arneo.
While very engaged with the success of his restaurants, James’s passion is helping others. Professionally and personally, James contributes to a multitude of local organizations to help meet the critical needs of our community.
If he isn’t at work or with his family, there is a chance you could find him looking through the trees adjacent to Fort Wayne’s golf courses, trying to find his golf ball, or sulking following most Purdue sporting events.
