Wiener jolted the political firmament last month by declaring his candidacy to succeed Rep. Nancy Pelosi, beating the speaker emerita to the punch on whether or not she would run for a 21st term. He hit the ground running with a huge Day One fundraising haul and is aiming to challenge Saikat Chakrabarti, the former campaign manager and chief of staff for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and a wealthy former tech executive. Wiener was elected to the state senate in 2016 and San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2010.
