Overview

Short background of the past:15th Amendment and Reconstruction, then total disfranchisement, then the Voting Rights Act.

Vernon Burton, Judge Matthew J. Perry Professor of History (and other disciplines) at Clemson, and Armand Derfner, Esq., a longtime civil rights lawyer, have presented on race-related jurisprudence for us in the past. Today, they explore issues from the past, and look ahead to: Shelby County, destruction of Section 2, racial gerrymandering in disguise, etc.
