Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with Miffy, the globally beloved bunny! Come for lion dance performances, zodiac crafts, demonstrations, storytime, lucky plant sale, live music, and more! Miffy will be in attendance to help ring in the Year of the Rabbit!

Tip: Dress for the weather! This event is mainly outdoors.

$5 suggested donation* • Free

* A suggested donation of $5 or any amount is optional and goes toward sustaining the Garden’s landscape, innovative programs, and environmental education. You can donate at Garden entrance. We thank you for your generosity!

$15 event parking rate is in effect on this day.

What is Miffy Presents Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year, also called “Spring Festival,” is the holiday celebrating the beginning of the lunar calendar. It is observed by many Asian cultures around the world–and right here in Queens! This year, as part of our annual celebration at Queens Botanical Garden, we are partnering with Miffy, the globally beloved bunny, who will make appearances throughout the event. The day will be full of lion dance performances, live music, zodiac crafts, demonstrations, walking tours, storytime, lucky plant sale, scavenger hunt, community art, and more!

Who is Miffy?

Miffy is the adorable and iconic Dutch bunny created by Dick Bruna in 1955. Loved by old and young alike, she is featured in books, TV, and other media across the world in dozens of languages. Miffy is delighted to be here in New York City celebrating the Year of the Rabbit with Queens Botanical Garden! To learn more about Miffy and the work of Dick Bruna, click here.

Will your event be outdoors?

This event will primarily take place outdoors, with some activities indoors. Dress for the weather. Most activities such lion dance performances, live music, walking tours, and other programs will be outdoors. We suggest checking our website for important event-related updates.

Will there be food and drink? Can I eat at the Garden?

Munch lunch alfresco and support local vendors! We will have some light food and beverages like tea and hot chocolate available for purchase. You are also welcome to bring your takeout to the Garden to enjoy. Check out some local eateries and explore the diverse culinary offerings just steps away from the Garden. You may also purchase snacks at the QBG Store located at the Visitor & Administration Building (#16 on Visitor Map).

While there is no designated space indoors to eat and drink, you are welcome to enjoy these items outdoors on our covered Terrace, located right outside the QBG Store, on a bench throughout the grounds, or in our Arboretum (#23 on Visitor Map). Just remember to discard all refuse in appropriate trash or recycling receptacles and remember to take your belongings!

Should I sign up for Membership?

Yes! Membership gets you a year of unlimited FREE Garden Admission and free or discounted tickets to select programs, festivals, performances, and more. Members enjoy invitations to Members-exclusive events, discounts on gift shop purchases and parking passes, and reciprocal benefits at over 300 gardens nationwide! How do I get to the Garden?

QBG is located at 43-50 Main Street, Flushing, NY. We are easily accessible by car and public transportation. For more directions on how to get here: https://queensbotanical.org/directions

Do you have parking? How much does parking cost?

Parking is available year-round during open hours at our Parking Garden, located at 42-80 Crommelin Street, Flushing. A $15 event parking rate is in effect on this day. For more information: https://queensbotanical.org/directions

Are there restrooms?

Restrooms are located by the QBG Store at the Visitor & Administration Building.

What are your Covid health & safety protocols?

Please follow our current health & safety guidelines, found on our website: https://queensbotanical.org/know-before-you-go

Outdoors, individuals are not required to wear masks, however individuals may choose to still wear them.

Indoors, masks must be worn in shared spaces such as the QBG Store, Gallery, restrooms, etc.

Hand sanitizer dispensers are available at multiple stations throughout the Garden.

High-touch surfaces are disinfected throughout the day.

Cancellations

In the case that an event is cancelled, you will be notified via email.

By purchasing tickets and attending QBG events, you hereby opt in to receiving communications from the Garden. You may receive updates about future QBG events and news through the addresses you provide. If you do not wish to receive future communication, simply click the “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of an email or write to info@queensbotanical.org.

QBG staff strives to provide a place of peace, beauty, and safety for the quiet enjoyment of our visitors. QBG is a living museum, a collection of gardens for the study, culture, exhibition, and display of plants. We encourage our visitors to explore, enjoy, and be respectful of our plant collections and to be considerate of fellow guests as well. Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) occasionally photographs or films visitors and activities on site to support our mission in promotional media and materials, including print, online, broadcast, and social media. By attending this event, you grant permission to QBG use your likeness in perpetuity, in all forms of print and digital media used to promote, publicize, or advertise the Garden, its activities, and programs. If you do not give QBG permission to take and use your image, you must notify an event organizer or staff when you arrive for this event. QBG is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
