Midnight Mind Magazine Reading

By Napa Bookmine

Overview

An Evening Exploring Midnight Mind Magazine with Brett Van Emst, Teresa Pham-Carsillo, and Justyn Hegreberg.

ABOUT MAGAZINE

What is Midnight Mind Magazine? It’s poetry & fiction. And non-fiction. And art. Oh, and photography. And sometimes comics. And sometimes found art. Kinda whatever works.

We launched in New York City in 1999. We re-launched in Napa Valley in 2024.

It’s for those of us who love books. And love reading. And love figuring things out. The ideas. The dreams. The “why this” and “why that” and “I’d love to ask this person that question”. It’s for us folks who ponder. It’s our friends who are curious. It’s for people who are always learning. Issues have included work by Jim Harrison, Denis Johnson, Benjamin Percy, and Napa locals.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Brett Van Emst has lived in England, Nantucket, Beaver Island, Chicago, New York City, Sausalito, Petaluma, Napa Valley and just moved to the coast of North Carolina with his wife and 2 kids. He started his publishing career by creating White Fish Press back in 1998. He attended the Columbia Publishing Course and went on to work for Random House in New York City. As you may have guessed, he is fascinated by all printed works.

Teresa Pham-Carsillo is a Vietnamese American writer of poetry and fiction. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Communications from the University of California, Davis, she became an office-bound marketer, stealing time in the early and late hours to write. Her poems, short fiction, and essays have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Poetry Magazine, The Southern Review, Black Warrior Review, and Salt Hill Journal. She resides in Napa, California, with her husband and their rescue dog, Ollie.

Justyn Hegreberg lives in the Napa Valley and makes art to support his writing. For over a decade he has shown painting, collage, and assemblage in galleries across the country. He has had solo and two person shows in Seattle and Portland, OR where he lived for a number of years. There he started Bedside Gallery, an alternative art space on the table beside his bed. Most recently his work has appeared in the magazine New American Paintings and at the International Print Center New York.
