Mic Check Double Screening and Dialogue

Presented in congruence with Mic Check, our first program of 2026 offers a space to reflect on how we foster connections to people and places, preserve memory, and build upon tradition. Join us from wherever you are for virtual screening highlighting short films featured in Mic Check: Cameron A. Granger’s Here & There Along the Echo (2024) and Darol Olu Kae’s Keeping Time (2023).

Set in “Bad City,” where black holes have become a ubiquitous part of daily life, Here & There Along the Echo explores the scars left by segregative urban design. Blending speculative fiction and documentary, Granger examines black holes as sites of both loss and discovery. Kae’s Keeping Time pays homage to the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, an avant-garde jazz group from South Central LA. Through a kaleidoscopic lens that interweaves past, present, and future, the film reveals the collective effort required to sustain creative traditions across time and space.

The double screening will be followed by a dialogue with Darol Olu Kae moderated by Anisa Olufemi, closing with a brief audience Q&A—your chance to ask questions, share thoughts, and engage directly with the filmmaker.
