Join the fun with: The Jersey Lawn Sprints ( Weather Permiting )
It's been called a cross between a stroll in a rose garden and the Baja 1000. The Jersey Lawn Sprints represent a unique Mercedes Club event which takes place during the Mid Atlantic Picnic at Falkenhorst in Hopewell, New Jersey. After the convivial repast and the amiable people's choice car show, a gaggle of competitive enthusiasts take to the back 20 acres at the farm and run their starships around a course marked out with traffic cones. This is an autocross which takes place on the lawn with participants running the course, one car at a time, against the stop watch. Driving on grass with a street legal Mercedes is a hoot. It also takes a certain finesse with no relation to pedal to the metal brute force. One year the fastest time award went to a 60 year old Mercedes riding on skinny bias ply tires with a physicist behind the wheel. Give this event a try. It is run on an unobstructed field and ham-fisted attempts to attain high speed are rewarded by wheel spin and dust. The Jersey Lawn Sprints: a safe and jolly diversion.
