Please join Amazon Watch for a special gathering at the Amazon Watch office in Oakland on Thursday, June 19 to meet Indigenous leaders from the Ecuadorian Amazon who are on the front lines of the fight against oil drilling in their territories.
Our honored guests include Juan Bay, President of the Waorani Nation of Ecuador (NAWE), Zenaida Yasacama, Vice-President of the Ecuadorian Indigenous Federation (CONAIE), and youth leader Jhajayra Machoa, from the Indigenous federation of the Ecuadorian Amazon (CONFENIAE) — key voices in the movement to defend the Amazon and uphold Indigenous rights. They are visiting California to share how the state’s imports of crude oil from the Amazon are directly fueling rainforest destruction and human rights violations.
Join us to hear their stories, ask questions, and learn how we can act in solidarity. This is a unique opportunity to connect directly with the frontline defenders protecting one of the world’s most vital ecosystems.
