Abstract:

Since 2015, the Latino Association for Behavior Analysis (LABA) has aimed to address diversity disparities in the field of behavior analysis. At the onset of the association, LABA has pinpointed several behaviors that have been presented on to support individual practitioners in helping improve the lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our field. The presenter will use an OBM framework to take a retrospective look at the progress made since the inception of arguably the first association to address diversity in our field, LABA. Using the same OBM framework, the presenter will lead a roundtable discussion with the participants to identify how we can continue to grow as individual practitioners and as a collective field. Various case studies of progress and opportunities for advancement will be presented.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will identify an OBM package that can help produce progress in targeted diversity initiatives in the field of ABA

2. Participants will identify the pinpoints that support individuals to engage in behaviors that increase diversity in our field

3. Participants will review case studies of progress in the diversity movement in the field of behavior analysis

ABOUT LABA:

LABA is an organization dedicated to improving cultural, social and ethnic diversity in the field of applied behavior analysis as well as addressing the particular needs of diverse individuals and diverse communities. LABA was formed by three Latino behavior analysts, Ruth Tello-Di Leva, Isaac Bermudez and Jose D Rios, who, combined have worked in the field of behavior analysis for nearly 90 years.

LABA was the first behavior analytic organization formed specifically to address diversity (and the absence of diversity) in our field. LABA focuses on disseminating evidenced-based practices and providing support, resources, training opportunities, communication and networking opportunities to practitioners and students with the purpose of increasing the visibility, participation and collaboration of Latinos and other underrepresented groups in the leadership of behavior analytic organizations, educational institutions and behavior analytic agencies.
