May Migration at Circle Forest and Callahan Park
Overview
The walk will start and end at Circle Forest(3301 Palmer St Detroit) and walk through Callahan Park.
Cirlce Forest is a restoration project created by Arboretum Detroit and Callahan Park is the first Detroit Bird City park restored with a native grass and flower meadow in 2019. We will walk through other Arboretum Detroit sites including Oxygen Alley, and Treetroit 1. We will wander through these spaces looking and listening for birds. For each bird we find we can discuss behavior, field marks, fun facts and identification tips. If there is not much bird activity we can discuss past bird sightings in the area as well as the local plants and how they interact with birds and other wildlife.
Kyle has been watching the birds at Callahan Park since 2020 as the Detroit Bird City meadow was first established. Thanks to all of Kyle's work we have been able to record over 100 different species of birds at Callahan Park, which you can view here.
We will have binoculars for attendees to borrow.
Bathroom facilities are not available.
