About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

Join us for a community-led listening session on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku that is dedicated to uplifting the voices of Maui residents still facing the ongoing challenges and emotional toll of the wildfires. Weʻre inviting anyone who has been impacted by the fires, as this is your space to speak up, be heard, and share your story in a safe and supportive environment. Come talk about what life is like for you right now — the challenges you’re facing, the changes you’ve seen, and the hopes you have for the future of your community. Your input will help shape how the Civil Beat newsroom continues to cover Maui with accuracy, respect, and care.

Light refreshments and snacks will be served. The official listening session will take place on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by Newsroom "Drop-in" Hours where anyone can stop by and talk individually from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku.

Register now to attend the official listening session. Newsroom Hours are open to everyone and do not require a ticket to attend.

Civil Beat is the largest news outlet dedicated to public affairs reporting about Hawaii. Our focus is on investigative and watchdog journalism, in-depth enterprise reporting, analysis and commentary that gives readers a broad view on issues of importance to the community.

Civil Beat has quickly become one of the most respected news sites in Hawaii. Our journalists have won dozens of state and regional awards and Civil Beat has been named the best news website in Hawaii for the past five years by the Society of Professional Journalists.

Civil Beat also hopes to foster community discussion by providing a place where citizens can debate important issues in a civil manner, free from cheap shots and personal swipes. Our goal is to challenge our leaders to do better. We are the watchdogs of the public’s trust and we take seriously the mission to ensure our government and civic leaders are not abusing that trust.
