  • UNDER 18 WITH PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN

Join us to hear author Matt Dinniman discuss his bestselling Dungeon Crawler Carl series in conversation with Django Wexler! Level-up with Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they fight to survive in the galaxy’s most popular apocalyptic game show.

Entry will be included with the purchase of any hardback Dungeon Crawler Carl book from Ballast Book Company. You are allowed to bring previously purchased Matt Dinniman titles to have signed, and additional books will be available day-of in limited quantities or via Eventbrite as an add-on. All event attendees will also receive a free Princess Donut sticker!

Please note: Matt will be available to sign up to three books (including others in the series). If you would like additional books signed, you are welcome to rejoin the end of the line as time permits.

About the books:

The apocalypse will be televised!

You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what’s worse than that? An alien invasion, the destruction of all man-made structures on Earth, and the systematic exploitation of all the survivors for a sadistic, intergalactic game show. That’s what.

Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game-like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon. A dungeon that’s actually the set of a reality television show with countless viewers across the galaxy. Exploding goblins. Magical potions. Deadly, drug-dealing llamas. This ain’t your ordinary game show.

Welcome, Crawler. Welcome to the Dungeon. Survival is optional. Keeping the viewers entertained is not.

Django's Dark Lord Davi series follows Davi as she tries to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end.

Matt Dinniman is a writer, artist, and musician (well, he's a bass player) from Gig Harbor, WA. He is the author of several books, including the bestselling Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

Django Wexler is the author of many fantasy novels, including How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying, Ashes of the Sun, and The Thousand Names, as well as series for middle grade and young adults. In his former life as a software engineer, he worked on AI research and programming languages. He currently lives near Seattle with his wife, daughter, many cats, and a teetering mountain of books. When not writing, he paints tiny soldiers and plays games of all sorts.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I park?

There is free street parking on the surrounding streets. The paid parking garage on Washington Ave. between 4th and 5th street may be a more reliable option. Due to road construction, if you download the parking garage's Spot Saver app, you may park for free in the garage for up to two hours.

What if I bought the book through Ballast Book Company already?

If you have purchased the books directly from Ballast Book Company you can still attend! Send us an email at ballastbookco@gmail.com with your name, phone number, and the date you purchased the books and we will add you to the guest list. Any books bought through the store will NOT be presigned.

Will the concessions be open at the Roxy Theatre?

Yes, the concessions should be open! They have popcorn, candy, soft drinks, and craft cocktails as well as beer and wine.

What if my partner and I want to come, but don't want to get the same book twice?

Each ticket comes with a book, we suggest having each person get a different ticket type to avoid duplicates.

What if I purchased a Matt Dinniman somewhere other than Ballast?

If you have previously purchased Matt Dinniman books from other stores, you are welcome to bring them as long as you purchase at least one hardback Matt Dinniman book through us (such as by pre-ordering a new one in the series). Matt will sign up to three books for each person.

Can I bring my friend/significant other/D&D party/cat/plus one?

Every body that enters the theatre must have a ticket purchased via this eventbrite or registered in person at the bookstore. Each ticket is a book. Please only use the "additional book" add on if you do NOT need another seat. Each "book ticket" equals one seat. Only Matt Dinniman books are tickets.

Is seating assigned or reserved?

Seating is first come, first served. Doors will open at 12:00. You can stake a claim on a seat and then go get a beverage and popcorn!

When should I arrive?

Doors open at 12 noon. If you arrive before 12pm, please form a single file line going from the Roxy towards Pacific Ave. and do not block the sidewalk or entrances to other buildings. Restrooms are NOT available for people waiting in line.

Will Matt sign my books?

All books picked up at the event will be pre-signed by Matt. If you want just the signature, you are good to go after the event! If you want your books personalized to your name, or additional books signed, audience members will be invited to the signing line by groups in the order you arrive.

Will Matt sign every book I bring?

Matt will sign up to three books per person. If you have more than three books, you can re-join the signing line after every other attendee has gone through the line to get your additional books signed as time permits. Please be courteous and considerate of others and Matt's signing hand!

Can I take a photo with Matt?

We will have someone to take photos on your cell phone of you getting your books signed by Matt. No posed photos will be permitted.
