What is a written state complaint?

A written state complaint is a formal dispute resolution option that is available to everyone who has a child served in special education. There is a process to follow and all states have a form that you can choose to use.

I am new to special education. Is this webinar right for me?

YES! Even if you don't have any issues and are not looking to write a state complaint at this time, it is important to know that 1) what kinds of documents you should be creating and 2) the process involved in creating and submitting a complaint.

Question 3

I want to file a state complaint. Will an advocate write it for me?

Accepted Answer

Some may. I choose to coach and guide my clients to write their own. The complaint is better when the parent writes it, and the  parent - the best advocate - learns a new skill in advocating for their child. This is why I have workshops and a written state complaint work group!

How do I join the Written State Complaint Work Group?

I hope you join! The first step is to register for the three written state complaint workshops because the work  groups are supportive, structured sessions designed to get that complaint written. Once you register for the workshops, I'll send you an email inviting you to the work group.

Question 5

What does the work group look like? How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

The work group is small - 8 people max - and meets six times. There are work groups that meet 2X a week and others that meet 1X a week. The cost is $250 per person.

What is the difference between a workshop and work group?

Accepted Answer

Workshops are low cost, live webinars that provide training on a specific topic. The work groups are small group coaching sessions that focus on completing a task. For example, the written state complaint work group is 6 sessions, and you will have a state complaint written at the end.
