Mastering Fireground Command - CMFR

By Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department

Overview

January 26 and 27, 2026. Get ready to take your fireground command skills to the next level with hands-on training and real-life scenarios.

In the high-stakes environment of the modern fireground, success isn’t just about effort—it’s about the seamless integration of leadership, data-driven tactics, and disciplined command. This course is designed for both aspiring and incumbent officers who want to move beyond "traditional" methods and adopt a street-smart, evidence-based approach to incident management.

Course Overview

We will tackle the critical gap between classroom theory and the chaotic reality of the first 15 minutes of an incident. Participants will learn to synthesize the latest fire dynamics research with proven leadership principles to ensure safety and efficiency on every call.

Key Learning Objectives

Mastering the Modern Size-Up: Implement the SIGNAL method for rapid civilian victim profiling and apply data from FirefighterRescueSurvey.com to prioritize search and rescue efforts.

Operationalizing Fire Science: Translate the latest UL FSRI research on fire behavior and modern construction into actionable tactical objectives that address the speed of today's fire growth.

Command Presence & Communication: Develop a "Command Voice" and presence that fosters accountability, clear radio discipline, and tactical consistency across all shifts and battalions.

Breaking the "Error Chain": Learn to identify and disrupt the NIOSH 5—the leading causal factors in Line of Duty Deaths (LODDs)—before they align into a catastrophic event.

Functional ICS: Transition from "administrative ICS" to "operational ICS," utilizing NIMS/NFPA-compliant structures to manage everything from day-to-day responses to complex, multi-unit incidents.
