About Shu-Ting Yao
Praised by The Black Forest Messenger in Germany for her “thrilling violin playing” and “unforgettable performance,” violinist Shu-Ting Yao maintains an active and distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and pedagogue. Her artistry has been described as possessing a “full sound on all strings” (Black Forest Messenger, Triberg, Germany) and “like a bird singing in perfect harmony” (concert reviewer, Steinway & Sons).
Dr. Yao has collaborated with numerous ensembles, including the Charleston Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, Manhattan Symphonie, and Apollo Chamber Orchestra, and has served on the faculty of Frostburg State University. A native of Taiwan, she holds degrees from the National Taipei University of Education, Peabody Conservatory, Mannes College of Music, and The Catholic University of America, where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree.At Kronberg Academy, she was mentored by world-renowned violinists, including Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, Roby Lakatos, Daniel Hope, and Ana Chumachenko.
An active pedagogue, Dr. Yao’s students have been accepted into leading institutions such as Juilliard, Peabody, Yale, NEC, Rice, Eastman, Columbia and Penn and have received honors in regional and national youth orchestras.
