HENRY FERLAND

Henry Ferland is a technically impressive fingerstyle guitarist -- playing melody, rhythm, bass, and percussion simultaneously, sometimes while singing. His repertoire and influences include Americana (Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Buster B. Jones, Tommy Emmanuel) Jazz (Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Jonathan Kreisberg, Julian Lage) contemporary artists (Paul Simon, Dave Matthews) as well as a growing body of original work. Henry brings musicianship and grace to his live performances and has an appealing and friendly stage presence that wins audiences and keeps them coming back.Henry’s music career began with the cello in 3rd grade. He became interested in fingerstyle guitar in 6th grade, which led to winning a thumbpicking competition in Muhlenberg, Kentucky in 10th grade (2018 International Home of the Legends Junior Shootout.) Henry attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston until Carpal Tunnel in both hands made playing guitar impossible. During a year-long setback, he focused on composition, theory, and film scoring. Thanks to the Musicians Treatment Foundation and multiple surgeries, Henry regained use of his hands, made a full recovery, and graduated in 2024.In the year since leaving Boston, Henry has made a name for himself in the Hudson Valley music scene. He was invited to play on the main stage at The Town Crier in Beacon, and participate in a singer/songwriter evening at The Colony in Woodstock. He has been an opener for Sean Rowe at The Lemon Squeeze, Bluestone Quarry at Tinker Street Tavern, and Dylan Doyle Band at The Falcon. His performance at the Rosendale Street Festival led to a solo show in the Rosendale Theater (where he will perform again in October 2025.) He frequently plays at Sideshow, Bad Seed Taproom and The Hudson Ale Works. When not performing solo, he can be seen with The Henry Ferland Trio at the acoustic supper club Pearl Moon as well as with his (unnamed) electric jam band for late night crowds at Snug Harbor. In 2025 he played a 40 minute set at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society in Nashville, TN where he has been a proud member ever since he was presented as a “Young Thumb” by Tommy Emmanuel and John Knowles in 2018.https://www.henryferland.com/
