Martha Sakellariou: Preparation(s) for a Dinner 2025–2026

By Institute of Contemporary Art San José

Overview

Join the ICA and Martha Sakellariou for a symbolic meal that will be shared as a gesture and a promise for a revolutionary dinner to come.

From November 20th, 2025– December 14, 2025 artist Martha Sakellariou will occupy the David Pace Gallery as both resident and agitator, transforming the space into a site of contemplation and quiet insurrection. Preparation(s) for a Dinner 2025–2026 continues Sakellariou’s ongoing “Revolution is a Dinner Party” series. The table remains unset, gestures are incomplete, and anticipation hangs in the air. Visitors encounter a space where acts of care, labor, and waiting become political gestures.

On Friday, December 5th at 7:30pm, a symbolic meal will be shared as a gesture and a promise for a revolutionary dinner to come. Visitors will be encountering one moment within an ongoing process of the artist's takeover of the Pace Gallery at the ICA — including the symbolic gesture of sharing bread which is an art-performance element. It is not a full dinner and all ages are welcome. This is a free, drop in event that's part of the SoFA First Friday activities on December 5th. RSVPs are not required, but are encouraged.
