About this event

Music • Jazz

Saxophonist and flutist Mark Lewis has enlivened jazz scenes from Seattle and San Francisco to Rotterdam and Paris, creating a vast and intensely stimulating body of work over four decades—including 1,800 compositions. Recent accolades include Cadence Magazine Top Ten Critics Poll for his album Naked Animals, as well as ranking #2 on alto sax and #3 on flute in the 39th Annual Jazz Station Awards for The New York Session, a collaboration with piano legend George Cables, bassist Essiet Essiet, and drummer Victor Lewis.

Rotterdam, the Netherlands, served as Mark’s home base for many years, where he toured Europe’s top clubs and taught jazz theory and improvisation at several conservatories. He has also lived and performed in San Francisco and Victoria, BC.

Mark has performed and recorded with jazz greats including pianists George Cables, Mark Levine, Overton Berry, Mike Renzi, and Ted Gioia; drummers Victor Lewis, Candy Finch, and Eddie Moore; bassists James Long, David Friesen, and Larry Grenadier; saxophonist Noah Howard; trumpeter Randy Brecker; and vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson. During his time in San Francisco, Mark frequently substituted for Stan Getz and John Handy.
