About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Poets Michelle Latavala and Maya Stein meet to read their work, using the theme of the reading ("mapping the unmappable" as a loose guide for which poems they'll choose to share. Interspersed with the readings will be an informal conversation in response to the poems, as well as the themes, concerns, ideas, and experiences that have risen up in the listening. There will be space to ask questions, too!

Frequently asked questions

Where did the title of this event come from?

It's inspired by a line in one of Michelle's poems, Migration by Plane Wings: "a migration fueled by earth / we are all losing, this animal body stuck / somewhere unmappable, like luggage / never loaded"

Maya, what made you want to ask Michelle to be your guest?

I have been the happy recipient of Michelle's writing for several years, and have published several of her poems in the literary journal, kerning, for which I serve as Editorial Director.

What is a "Conversation in Poetry"?

It is like a regular conversation, only instead of dialogue, the exchange is centered on sharing poems.

Will you be reading poetry the whole time?

No, but if you enjoy listening to poetry, there will be plenty of it here! We will also have an informal, spontaneous exchange inspired by the poems that get shared. And there'll be opportunities to ask questions throughout the event.
