MBP is a non-profit organization with a producer-elected board consisting of 14 directors, each representing producers in a specific region or district of the province. We work on behalf of approximately 6,000 local beef producers, including those in the cow-calf, backgrounding and finishing sectors. Our mission is to represent you through communication, advocacy, research, and education — within the industry and to governments, consumers and others to improve prosperity and ensure a sustainable future.
The district meetings provide a valuable opportunity for face-to-face conversations between MBP’s directors, staff, producers and other stakeholders. Key district meeting components include overviews of MBP’s finances, its advocacy efforts, and updates on policies, issues and trends affecting the industry. And there is the opportunity for you to help guide MBP’s activities through formulating resolutions for potential debate at the 47th MBP Annual General Meeting in Brandon in February 2026.
Examples of topics on which MBP has been working in 2025 include: the expansion of livestock inspection services in Manitoba, livestock predation (including compensation), drought conditions, trade, Agricultural Crown Lands, business risk management programs, Disaster Financial Assistance, animal health matters like bovine tuberculosis, livestock traceability, livestock transportation requirements, and many more.
Meetings start at 4:30 p.m. with updates on MBP’s work. There will be a break around 5:45 p.m. for a free beef on a bun meal and fellowship. At 6:30 p.m. presentations resume and director elections will be held. There will also be an opportunity to explore possible resolutions for debate at MBP’s 47th AGM or to suggest action items.
*Please pre-register everyone attending to help MBP track quorum and to assist with meal counts. MBP also needs your municipality and/or mailing address to ensure you are eligible to vote in the meeting you attend.
