About this event

The Mandarin Open Studio group is run by the Virtual Art Therapy Clinic. Graduate-level student art therapists lead these sessions to gain hands-on experience while supporting participants' growth and creativity.

• If you have a Mandarin-speaking or any Chinese-related background, we warmly welcome you. Even if you do not, feel free to join us if you are interested in the Chinese language and its rich cultural heritage!

• The virtual open studio is FREE for anyone over the age of 16 who wishes to join.

• Attend one session or as many as you like—no limits! We kindly ask that you attend the sessions you sign up for via Eventbrite.

• No prior art experience is necessary!

• Any art supplies, crafts, recycled materials, and even photography are welcome.

What to Expect in This 2-Hour Session:

• Bilingual Facilitation: The entire session is facilitated bilingually to support both Mandarin and English speakers, creating an inclusive and culturally enriching environment.

• Warm-Up (10-15 Minutes): A welcoming period to create a comfortable atmosphere for exploring language and cultural elements.

• Main Art Activities: Prompts and guided activities focused on Chinese culture and language. You may follow these prompts or work independently on your art or writing.

• Closure (Last 20-30 Minutes): Time for building community, engaging in discourse, Q&A, and sharing. Participants are encouraged to share their creations if they wish.

Ground Rules:

• Upon joining, ensure your display name matches the name used for registration.

• Participation is expected; having your camera on supports community building and a sense of safety.

• We strive to create a barrier-free environment, so substances should not be used during the open studio.

• Disrespectful comments or actions are not tolerated. We welcome all Chinese-speaking participants or those with a connection to Chinese heritage.

NOTE: Once registered, you will receive an email approximately 24 hours before the event with Zoom access details.

Please contact the Virtual Art Therapy Clinic at info@vatc.org with any questions or concerns.
