Man Ray: When Objects Dream
Please join us for a discussion of the artworks of Man Ray (1890-1976, USA), born Emmanuel Radnitzky to a family of Russian Jewish immigrants, he became famous for his role in the Dada and Surrealist movements. While known primarily for his "rayographs," Man Ray worked in a variety of media, including painting, sculptural objects, and film. On the occasion of the presentation of his works in the current exhibition "May Ray: When Objects Dream" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we will survey his canonical works.

Instructor Bio: Dr. Caterina Y. Pierre
Dr. Caterina Y. Pierre is a professor of art history at the City University of New York at Kingsborough Community College and a visiting associate professor at the Pratt Institute. Dr. Pierre has a diverse teaching portfolio that includes courses on art and crime at CUNY Kingsborough, the Pratt Institute, and Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Her current research projects include a book on cemetery sculpture as political art in the late nineteenth century and a biography of Ernest Durig, a forger of the renowned sculptor Auguste Rodin.
