Designers are makers and are often shy of moving into management fearing that it'd stop them from 'making' and learning in the world of design. Few who do, often get sucked into the trap of being the 'best and the most informed' manager of a team of creatives. That leads you to ponder on 'how do you transition from being an IC designer to a manager?'

Aniruddha will be sharing stories & examples from his experience of moving into a design management role, share common challenges that designers face in the transition, while learning about designing your ideal process for a successful transition from IC to design management.

Whether you're considering a move into management or you're a new manager already, you're probably asking yourself a lot of questions. "Do I actually want to be a manager? How can I know I'll be good at it? How is my relationship with coworkers going to change?" Or, "What do I do now that I am a manager? Should I still be designing too? In this talk, Ian will share practical advice for the journey into management and ways to contextualize the big questions you have so you can maintain control of your career path and grow intentionally.

Aniruddha Kadam | UX Design Manager @LinkedIn

Aniruddha Kadam is a UX Design Manager at LinkedIn. His experience spans across design consulting, startups, and design management & strategy. Currently, he is building design teams and influencing product design strategy to help create a balanced talent marketplace at LinkedIn. Previously, he's worked with Airship where he lead design for the Mobile Wallet product.

Ian Oliver | Design Manager @Netflix

Ian is a design leader originally from Boston, now based in San Francisco. He currently leads the Customer Health design team at Netflix, focusing on member and growth messaging, as well as customer support tooling. Before that, he managed a few of the Product Design teams at Zendesk that help build the best customer experiences.
