Overall Description:
As we enter into year three in the experiment of leveraging AI in education, educators are still exploring and determining what effective and meaningful use looks like. This two part series is designed to help educators understand the current state of AI in education, the evolution of the technology, and more importantly how to design powerful human centered use cases. The series will help educators increase their awareness, comfort, establish common language and increase their capacity to thoughtfully and critically make sense of AI in their classrooms.
Part I (DEC. 2): Current State of AI - Navigating the 3 Experiment
The first session in the series will provide a foundation for critically understanding the capacity, inherent risks and current state of AI in education. Through an updated examination of critical AI Literacy, participants will know and understand the opportunities presented by AI to act as a beneficial digital member of their team. Further, Human Centered AI as a framework for use will be unpacked, providing common language, examples, and a mindset to foster AI use that centers the unique creativity and capacity of original human creativity.
Part II (DEC. 9): A Framework for Impact
The second session will go into specific detail around educators and student use. With a foundation set and established from session one, we will examine how educators can evolve and improve their practice with AI. Shifting from efficiency to improvement, with a focus on doing better instead of doing more, we will center educator AI use on solving existing problems with their infinitely patient digital AI team member. Additionally, the challenge of student use will be explored through approaches that can maintain both validity of student work and critical thinking, while also identifying approaches and use cases where AI can have a beneficial impact on the student’s learning experience.
