Did you know you can make music using computer code, on your browser? This hands-on workshop will teach you the basics of live coding; no previous coding or music experience required! The goal is to spark interest in creative coding, and to start building a live coding community in LA similar to those in SF, Buenos Aires, Madrid...Attendants will connect to a multi-player live coding website, Flok, where everyone will be able to make music collaboratively in real time, sharing knowledge with each other. We will use Strudel, a JavaScript-based language for music live coding that can run on your browser (including your phone!) A laptop with a modern web browser is required.The workshop will be 3 hours long and will cover:1. What is live coding?2. Tools3. Making you first beat4. Notation5. Samples6. Melody and harmony7. Collaborative jam session!

This workshop is done in collaboration with the Live Code LA and TOPLAP Madrid communities, which aim at openly sharing creative coding with the public.
