What is a zine? “A zine is a self-published, easily reproduced, printed form of self expression.” - Alana Stapleton

A zine can be filled with art, writing, collage, or a glorious mash-up of media. It can be used to tell stories, to educate, and to bring communities together. They reflect the idea that everyone’s perspective and ideas matter, carving out spaces beyond capitalistic or oppressive systems.

Celebrate Pride Month in community & join local artists from Rabbits of Realness , Jane Kim-Testa & SaraMarie Bottaro, for an evening of learning & making at Narrative with the Zine As Queer Expression generative workshop, centering Kim-Testa's zine, Genderfluid. Guests will be guided through a presentation on the history of zines & the process of creating their own. All materials will be provided and are included in the ticket price.

Jane Kim-Testa, co-facilitator, author & illustrator of Genderfluid

Hi, I’m Jane! I’m an artist and writer who loves to make art in all sorts of forms: character illustration, abstract painting, crocheting, tufting, spinning fiber, you name it. Having grown up moving across several countries and traveling to even more, I love to tell stories of diverse viewpoints and intersectionality in my writing and art. I’m fascinated by nature and frequently draw inspiration from its many aspects - flora, fauna, wind, water, and space. I am currently based in Boston where I live with my husband and domestic blizzard (dog).

SaraMarie Bottaro, co-facilitator, local artist

Hi, I’m SaraMarie! Letter writing is very personally important to me, and I also love making zines. Giving someone a gift in the form of a handwritten letter or a zine (or both at the same time!) lights me up. I also have a studio practice where I create mixed media paintings on translucent yupo with ink, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils and graphite. My work is centered around natural elements and the Sacred Feminine in the Ancient Mediterranean. Instagram: @saramarie_creates
