David Cloud is a formally trained woodworker. Learn more about him through his artist statement:
“I operate in a "form folIows function" medium and paradigm believing that furniture and furnishings can be both beautiful and useful. I am influenced by the mid-century modern genre and the elegance of Scandanavian design. Mid century modern is where wood and other materials meet engineering. While being formally trained as a designer/woodworker I have deep experience in aero-structures technology development and hold multiple patents in this area. This experience influences my woodworking, pushing the limits of materials in the objects that I build. In the last decade I have been more dedicated to function over form but am rapidly moving toward art for art's sake in my work. I am intrigued by the possibilities of using wood with other materials to create unique pieces and limited-edition furnishings while exploring the use of a variety of materials.”
