Make a Tiny Basket
Overview
Make a Tiny Basket
Come join us at Cannon Valley Makers for a fun(d)rasier to benefit the Community Action Center. Admission is $45 (made payable to CAC at the event) and all proceeds go to support the good work of the Northfield CAC. At the workshop, you'll learn:
- how to make a basket using soft materials and a twining technique
- where to find materials (hint: they're all around)
- foraging basket materials as a way to feel more connected to nature
- ways to prepare a couple of naturally found materials
This is a really cool craft that anyone can do, and that can be made with materials that are literally growing all around us, and that people are often happy to give away. My intention is to help you get started building skills that might take a little time as you develop muscle memory and your own personal style, but can be a satisfying and fulfilling way to connect with your creative self and with our community — both human and natural. In the first 2 hour session, we’ll go over all the things you need to know to get started, and then we’ll follow with a couple of 90 minute basket making meetups where you can practice your craft and get your questions answered.
Supplies needed:
- Hand Towel you don’t mind getting messed up
- Big darning needle (we'll have some on hand if you don't have one)
- Small scissors
- Optional: a big bunch of dried daylily or Siberian Iris leaves (20 or so depending on size)
About Trina:
I’m a creative arts professional, having made my biggest contribution as a singer/songwriter; however, I’m a lifelong experimenter with many different art forms, and this past June, I fell down a basket making rabbit hole and haven’t come back up since.
