DANCE IT UP with Maison Electronique and an opening set from DJ Dumptruck, a new collaboration between Chris Klaxton (drums!) and Mike Effenberger (B3 Organ).
Maison Electronique is an instrumental trio playing original music that blends contemporary Congolese guitar styles ndombolo and bofenya rock with Western styles like shoegaze, surf, and dub. The group is led by guitarist Nathaniel Braddock who has traveled extensively in West and Central Africa, and collaborates with musicians from Ghana, DRC, Mali, and Zambia, as well as having played in numerous indie rock bands. He has led African styles groups Occidental Brothers Dance Band Int’l, Trio Mokili, Accra Quartet, and Air Congo. He is joined by Ugandan bassist Alex Donsal Kateregga and drummer Frank Aveni. The group is based out of the Boston area.
DJ Dumptruck is an instrumental duo (Chris Klaxton, drums and Mike Effenberger, B3 Organ) that explores the intersection of postrock, soul, hip-hop, and groove-driven electronic music. The area dyad is as likely to be found improvising a live-score of the Superbowl as they are to be encountered at a barbeque joint or art gallery.
