Welcome to the MQ Game Jam!

We are inviting MQ students to get together on campus in groups of 2-4 to produce a game over 48-hours on the theme of "Reunion". You can interpret this theme however you like!

The idea behind this jam is to get together, make friends and learn new skills. However, there will be a small prize for the winning game, including the chance to have your game shown off across Macquarie Uni channels!

The jam will kick off on the 20th April at 9AM in Room 110 4RPD, with submissions due by 9AM on the 22nd April. Lab space will be available on the 20th and 21st from 9am-5pm. Computers are limited, so get in early or bring your own device and work in the collaborative workshop space!

Registration is essential, and open to Macquarie University students only! We will be checking on the day, and non-registered participants will be turned away.

Don't have a group? Don't worry! Groups will be formed on the day, so all you need to do is bring yourself, your game making tools (laptop, pen and paper, etc) and be ready to jam!

Rules

Games must follow the theme of "Reunion", which can be interpreted however your group wants.
Any engine can be used, but an in-browser playable version of the game, uploaded to itch.io, must be made available for judging.
Third party assets can be used, but must be appropriately referenced.
All design and development must take place during the game jam itself.

Submission

A link to a browser version of the game must be submitted by the deadline of 9AM 22nd April. At the start of the event, participants will be sent a Microsoft Form to fill out where students can upload their game's name, group name and credits, a short blurb about the game, and a link for judging/playing.

Judging and Prizes

Games will be judged by MQ Games staff members, with a small prize for the winning team, as well as secret achievements! The winning game will be promoted through MQ channels.

Games will be judged on the following criteria:

Adherence to Theme: How well does the game embrace the theme of "Reunion"? Is it meaningful to the game, or just tacked on?
Gameplay Experience: Does the game capture its intended experience? Are the mechanics well implemented for a 48-hour jam or do bugs and sloppy development get in the way?
Presentation: Does the game look/sound good? Has there been some care and thought put into how the game is being shown to the player, be it through the UI, the graphics or the sound design?
