Talk 1:

Matt Winkler (see his bio below) will conduct a deep dive into Amazon Web Services' SageMaker, which helps Data Scientists and Data Engineers develop ML models that meet a wide variety of use cases. While the tooling around Data Science is developing all the time, it can be challenging to implement processes around ML to realize its full potential. Event-driven architectures are one approach to managing these types of workloads. This talk illustrates applying an event-driven architecture using Sagemaker and AWS Lambda to automate many steps in the predictive process.

Matt's experience as a Machine Learning consultant and in-house practitioner has helped him develop perspective on how to align business use cases to technology recommendations. A Data Scientist by training, Matt has developed a particular interest in exploring ways to automate predictive processes in cloud environments. With extensive experience working on Amazon Web Services, he's implemented numerous ML processes including the RandomCutForest and DeepAR models offered in AWS Sagemaker. When Matt's not deploying cloud infrastructure, he can be found walking his dog, Roscoe, around North Center or playing basketball at any number of gyms around the city. Please reach out to talk about technology or a friendly game of pick-up!

Talk 2:

Closing the Loop Between Dev and Analytics. This talk will to focus on how AWS infrastructure can be used to better get the DEV team and the RISK/Analytics team on the same page in a fast-paced business setting.

Zach Miller holds a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics, focusing on data-driven research and solutions with large scale datasets and statistical analysis techniques. Interested in solving problems with data analysis, model building, machine learning, and software design. Passionate about using scientific techniques on “non-science” puzzles to extract answers from data for real-world application, understanding the world via data, and making predictions from models. 10 years of experience using data to gain insight. Also passionate about writing software that doesn't suck. He is not a tight end for the Chicago Bears.

Chicago AWS User Group

The Chicago AWS user group is a user-run, user-focused community in Chicago. We hold monthly, free evening events in the Loop. We rotate host offices and topics (anything but a sales pitch). Events include pizza and drinks up front, introductions, 2 to 3 quality non-sales presentations, then wrap with q&a. See ourwebsite: chicagoaws.com

Please read our Code of Conduct. By attending an AWS Chicago user group, you agree to comply with the group's code of conduct. See all upcoming events and our slack at Chicagoaws.com. Join the email list now.
