ABOUT THE MAASTRICHT APPROACH: The Maastricht Approach redefines the understanding of voice hearing, challenging the conventional psychiatric view that regards these experiences as pathological. Instead, it shows that such phenomena can carry personal significance, often rooted in an individual's emotional history.
This approach emphasizes the importance of empowering voice hearers through supportive networks and therapeutic techniques that facilitate communication with their voices, fostering recovery and resilience.
By shifting the focus from voice elimination to understanding and coping, the Maastricht Approach offers a constructive pathway for individuals navigating their experiences.
Peter Bullimore operates the training/consultant agency, Asylum Associates, and is the founding member of the Paranoia Network in England. He also holds a teaching and research post at Manchester University and is a published author on voices and trauma including the workbook Asking the Questions with Paul Hammersley and John Read, a guidebook on childhood trauma. He will be joined by at least one other member of his team in leading this event.
