Content Description: This 2-hour virtual training is an introduction or reminder for clinicians and graduate students about the basic principles and techniques of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). CCPT offers a non-directive, empathic, and developmentally responsive approach to working with children through their natural language of play. Participants will explore the theoretical framework, core skills, therapeutic benefits, and practical considerations for integrating CCPT into clinical settings. Through case examples, video demonstrations, and interactive discussion, attendees will gain essential knowledge for ethically and effectively supporting children’s emotional and behavioral needs using this evidence-based model.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the theoretical foundations and key principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT).
  2. Describe the essential skills and therapist roles involved in conducting CCPT sessions.
  3. Identify appropriate materials and environmental considerations for a child-centered play therapy setting.
  4. Recognize the therapeutic benefits and potential limitations of using CCPT with diverse child populations.
  5. Discuss basic ethical and cultural considerations relevant to implementing CCPT in clinical practice.
