Join us for a delicious lunch and learn about philanthropist Julius Rosenwald and the 5,000 Rosenwald Schools which, with the assistance of African-American communitites, were built in poor, rural, and predominantly African-American school districts between 1912-1932.
Our speaker, Tranae Chatman, is a native of Nashville and serves as the Curator of Social History at the Tennessee State Museum. She is an alumna of Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet Hight School and Middle Tennessee State University. Chatman has contributed significantly to themuseum's exhibitions, notably as a co-curator for the traveling exhibition, Building A Bright Future: Rosenwald Schools in Tennessee. Currently, she is the lead curator for the museum's latest exhibition, Photography i Tennessee: Early Studios and The Medium's First Century.
