Please join me and other seekers to explore the tarot and to make art of deep meaning and no consequence. We begin with a card at random. This year, I will be pulling from the Smith Rider Waite deck, one of the oldest and most popular sets of cards, created by Pamela Coleman Smith (1909). We discuss the artwork and compare imagery and symbolism across several decks. We do a drawing exercise to warm-up and engage our creative powers, then create our own interpretations and responses to the card. There is show and tell for those who want to share. The folks who have been gathering generate a kind and supportive environment to hold each other’s explorations. We close with a meditation poem on the card.
Tarot has been around for hundreds of years and interpreted by people infinite ways! This is an exercise in intuition and creativity; you do not need to know tarot or be good at drawing to participate. Please bring along your favorite deck to share, if you have one. I invite you to use any favorite art supplies to make your interpretations; a simple pen and paper will also do the work (which is play).
