Lost and Found in Migration at NYC Jewelry Week 2025

How do contemporary jewelers address themes of migration, home, homeland, and the sense of (not) belonging?

Art critic, curator, and educator Elena Karpilova was forced to leave Belarus in 2022 and is currently based in Portugal. At The Jewelry Library, she will present a public talk about her ongoing research project which explores how the experience of migration is reflected in contemporary jewelry.

Traditional Belarusian refreshments will be served.

Elena Karpilova

Elena Karpilova is an author and content creator for Art Jewelry Forum. She is founder and head of the interdisciplinary Architectural Thinking School for Children (since 2016). Karpilova was a finalist for the 2024 Maria Cristina Bergesio Award by AGC Italy and member of AGC (Association of Contemporary Jewellery). She is a jewellery designer and analyst on Instagram at @Karpilova. She is based in Lisbon, Portugal since May 2022.
