Lorna Simpson: Source Notes
Lorna Simpson (b. 1960) is best known for her works that combine photography with text in documentary-inspired images. Lorna Simpson: Source Notes, an exhibition of approximately thirty works by the artist, will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this summer. The works will include a selection of Simpson’s major paintings, including examples from her acclaimed Venice Biennale debut in 2015 and her celebrated series Special Characters, along with recent sculptures and related collages. Instructor Bio: Dr. Caterina Y. Pierre
Dr. Caterina Y. Pierre is a professor of art history at the City University of New York at Kingsborough Community College and a visiting associate professor at the Pratt Institute. Dr. Pierre has a diverse teaching portfolio that includes courses on art and crime at CUNY Kingsborough, the Pratt Institute, and Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Her current research projects include a book on cemetery sculpture as political art in the late nineteenth century and a biography of Ernest Durig, a forger of the renowned sculptor Auguste Rodin.
