The services available in AWS are changing almost as fast as the types of applications that are run there. Many of these services can make high availability for your applications and services much easier if they are well understood, and much more difficult if they are not.

In this presentation we will look at the current state of and best practices for running high availability applications in the cloud. We will be looking at HA solutions for databases, server instances, file systems, and more. We will talk about techniques for HA including multi-region VPC peering, RDS database replication, EFS backups, autoscaling groups and more!

Many of the tools and services that we will be looking at were not even available as options a couple of years ago, let alone widely used. So, if you have never looked at HA in AWS, or if its been more than a year or two, now is a great time to get more information and start exploring this exciting and ever evolving world!

Brad Adair is an experienced IT professional with over a decade of experience in systems engineering and administration, cloud engineering and architecture, and IT management. He is the President of Adair Technology, LLC., which is a Columbus based IT consulting firm specializing in AWS architecture and other IT infrastructure consulting. He is also an AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Outside of the office he enjoys sports, politics, and spending time with his wife and kids.
