Longleaf Film Festival: Wide Angle Lens
Event Information
Description
Free! Reservation Required, Limited Seating
People have been making film in North Carolina for more than 100 years and in all 100 counties. Like just about everywhere, most of those filmmakers have been white. And male. What is the “state of the state” for filmmakers of color? What are the opportunities today for the many diverse people making movies in North Carolina? And what challenges remain? Explore the history and current times of filmmaking, through a “wide angle lens” with this panel, which includes filmmakers Christopher Everett Wilmington on Fire (2015), Aby Rao Parallel Parking (2018), and Monique Velasquez Queen of Hearts (2016). Also on the panel is film historian and author Dr. Charlene Regester African American Actresses: The Struggle for Visibility, 1900-1960 (2010) and moderator, filmmaker and producer, Lana Garland.
