During the 2020 Open House New York Weekend, October 17-18, 2020, LMCC will host two live, Virtual Studio Visit sessions, each featuring five members of the current Workspace artist residency cohort.

The 10 participating artists work across a number of different mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and performance. Each have examined new ways to express and refine their practice in unique and diverse ways. Artists will each present their work, conduct fireside-style chats with one another, and answer questions from the live audience.

Workspace Virtual Studio Visits provide an opportunity to hear artists in unmediated conversation with one another, generating an intimate and direct understanding of each artist's individual work, and touching upon the nuances that connect and link their work in overarching ways.

About Workspace

LMCC’s flagship program, Workspace is a nine-month studio residency based in Lower Manhattan that focuses on creative practice development for emerging artists. Workspace offers space for experimentation and dialogue with peers and arts professionals, as well as career-advancement opportunities.

Working with real estate partners, LMCC adapts and activates temporarily vacant office space downtown to annually provide artists and arts groups with studio space in some of the city’s most noted landmarks. Since last September, LMCC’s Workspace artists-in-residence were given studio space in prime Lower Manhattan real estate on the 12th floor of 101 Greenwich, generously donated by Cove Property Group and BentallGreenOak. The building’s Beaux Arts architectural style features sweeping views, a terra cotta façade and relatively column-free, loft-like aesthetics. By creating space for artistic production just blocks from Wall Street, the Workspace program redefines what it means to "work" in Lower Manhattan.
