Beginner Class, Week 7
Foam Beetle. The Foam Beetle is a terrestrial dry fly that imitates real beetles often blown into the water from nearby vegetation. Its foam body keeps it buoyant while its rubber legs and realistic profile create surface disturbance that attracts opportunistic fish. Trout are especially drawn to this fly in late spring through early fall when land insects are abundant. It should be fished close to the banks, under overhanging trees, or drifted along seams, sometimes with a twitch to mimic a struggling insect.
