“My imagination can picture no fairer happiness than to continue living for art.”
– Clara Schumann
Our program showcases piano trios by two composers deeply committed to lofty artistic ideals - despite how messy their lives could get.
We've made the unusual choice of pairing Schumann's piano trio with the unrevised, 1854 version of Brahms’ trio, pairing two works whose origins were separated by only a few years' time. Amidst having children, spouses with syphilis, and unrequited love (or - not?), these works show how each composer managed to “live for art,” despite…life.
Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of classical music and be inspired by the works of Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms. See you there!
