ABOUT THE NIGHT
“Murder Behind the Mic" is an evening of comedy and drama in the classic, noir, “old time radio” style. Through the craft of voice actors, musicians and sound effects you will be whisked away into the sonic world of the classic 1940s private detective. This evening is both a tribute to this timeless art form and a showcase of its future.
Our show features three mysteries. First up, “Lance Manley & the Case of the Funhouse Fiasco”, an episode of the popular IBRT character Lance Manley, Library Detective. Next, “First Draft Playhouse: Hard-Boiled Mystery” a comedic mystery about a writer struggling to build believable characters. And finally, a fan re-creation of the classic, old time radio series from “The Adventures of Philip Marlowe”.
ICEBOX RADIO THEATRE & PRANKSTERS INK PRODUCTIONS
The Icebox Radio Theater (IBRT) of Int’l Falls, Minnesota, just celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024 and has produced over 400 radio plays, both original works and Old Time Radio re-creations. This will be the first time the IBRT has performed outside of Minnesota and director Jeffrey Adams is very excited to work in Hollywood. “To do this show in the city that Raymond Chandler (creator of Philip Marlowe) was writing about is amazing,” Adams said. “We want to thank Pranksters, Ink for making this possible.”
What happens when you take four close friends, a dash of trauma, three shots of insanity, and shake until combined? You get Pranksters Ink Productions. Founded in 2018 in sunny Los Angeles, Pranksters Ink writes, develops, and produces stories that are “absurdly serious.” “Murder Behind the Mic” is Pranksters Ink’s first expedition into the world of radio production, and they are excited to collaborate with Icebox Radio Theater. Pranksters Ink hopes to inspire a new appreciation for a medium with such a rich history of entertainment.
