Linux Install Party

By NYC Resistor

Overview

Linux-curious? Join us for a tutorial + office hours to install Linux on your laptop or help Resistor with ours!

Want to finally make the jump to Linux but

  • unsure what's the 'best distro', even after going down a research rabbit hole?
  • scared of 'bricking'?
  • want to practice first on a non-personal device?

Join our Linux Installation Party! We will have a tutorial and then casual office-hours, going to each device and helping you make the jump.

Optional: If you want to stretch your skills, we can also help with installing other distros such as Debrian, Zorin, Arch and Cinnamon.

What do I bring?

- Bring your own device or laptop!

Can my laptop install Linux?

- If it can run Windows 10, it can run Mint!

- If it can run Windows 11 and too old to run Windows 11- get out of Windows and into Linux with us!

Can I donate my old laptop to Resistor?

- Yes, please do! At the end of the party, your Linux-ified device can join us.

Maurice, Woody, Guillaume and Mars are members of NYC Resistor. We have loaner laptops with Windows, Mac and Linux, so that people can run weird periphery software, test on different OSs and fight planned obsolescence with computer necromancy.
