Do I need a computer for the lab exercises?

We will provide you with a VM to use for the lab exercises. You will need your own Windows/Mac/Linux computer with ssh to be able to log into the remote VM

What materials will I get?

Accepted Answer

You will have access to download a PDF with the slides, notes, lab exercise questions, and quizzes. Any need lab exercise files will also be made available for you to download.

What should I already know?

Accepted Answer

You should know how to log into a Linux system and get to a terminal window and to type basic commands like ls or cd.

Question 4

Is there a lunch break? Other breaks?

Accepted Answer

The format is lecture+lab time. We plan that 12:00Noon to 1:00PM each day will have no lecture time so that you can have a break for lunch. When its lab exercise time you will be able to get up to get coffee or what ever at your own discretion. Lab exercise time will vary from 20min to 1hour.

Can I ask questions?

Yes. During lecture and lab exercises the instructor is open to questions. The course is instructor-led with instructor help all along the way.

How can I determine if this class will help me?

Do you want to learn to do shell scripting? Use filters like AWK, sed, sort? Understand pipes? Use signals? Read documentation? Write shell functions? Use shell variables? That and the outline linked in the Overview should help you to answer.
