Linking Improved Executive Functioning Skills to Academic Performance
Event Information
About this Event
Over the course of the five 2-hour workshops, the PLC will get together to collaborate, learn about, and discuss the importance of Executive Functioning (EF) skills. Together we will investigate how EF relates to the wellness of ourselves and our students and will investigate the strategies that improve EF and lead to improved teaching and learning. This interactive PLC is designed to provide the opportunity for teachers and leaders to bring resources and strategies back to their school community. Dawn Summerfield, along with FariaPD, will share their expertise and facilitate the dialogue each month as the PLC learns, shares, and grows together.
Over the course of the 5 workshop sessions, each participant will have the opportunity to design and work on a personal project in the area of executive functioning, stress management or general school wellness.
Between workshop meetings, each member of the PLC will have a 1:1 coaching session with Dawn to discuss progress, answer questions or brainstorm ideas and next steps.
Dawn has worked in education for 28 years and has expertise in school leadership, curriculum design and assessment, special education and differentiation through the use of data. Her current focus is on improving student executive functioning skills, promoting school community health and wellness, and mentoring new teachers.
She has held leadership positions in both American schools and International IBO schools and has earned two advanced degrees in special education and health and wellness education.
